Catechism – Paragraph #124

Do you know the real Jesus?

Catechism Meditation:

“The Word of God, which is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, is set forth and displays its power in a most wonderful way in the writings of the New Testament” which hand on the ultimate truth of God’s Revelation. Their central object is Jesus Christ, God’s incarnate Son: his acts, teachings, Passion and glorification, and his Church’s beginnings under the Spirit’s guidance. No. 124

REFLECTION.  If you profess to be a Christian, that means you profess to follow Jesus Christ. But, of course, that presupposes that you know who Jesus is—where he came from, what he came to do, where he went, and what he continues to do until the end of time. Our understanding of Jesus can be shaped by our parents, our schooling, our culture, and our own ignorance. We need to redirect and there is a primary revelation about Jesus that we have access to: Scripture.

Redirecting our lives and focus towards God is a key theme throughout the Bible. It involves changing the trajectory and aim of our hearts, minds, and actions to align with God’s will and purposes. The Bible clearly states exactly how a Christian, or a follower of Christ, should live and act. However, the majority of self-identified, church-going Christians in the United States only read the Bible when we come to church. It doesn’t have to be that way. The Bible is complex, yes, but it’s accessible to anyone. There are ways to study it and understand it. There’s evidence based on the original New Testament documents that anyone can access. But you have to truly want to find out who Jesus is.

PRAYER.  Lord Jesus Christ, bring me to a deeper knowledge of You.

Timeless Wisdom Quote:

“Scripture does not reveal a spiritual man or a secular man. It speaks only of a whole man – integrated by the salvation that Christ brings.” Venerable Fulton J. Sheen
