What is a Eucharistic Miracle?
Catechism Meditation:
Throughout the ages, there have been so-called “private” revelations, some of which have been recognized by the authority of the Church. They do not belong, however, to the deposit of faith. It is not their role to improve or complete Christ’s definitive Revelation, but to help live more fully by it in a certain period of history. Guided by the Magisterium of the Church, the sensus fidelium knows how to discern and welcome in these revelations whatever constitutes an authentic call of Christ or his saints to the Church. ―No. 67
REFLECTION: A Eucharistic miracle is a private revelation that is recognized by the Church for devotion, affirming the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. These miracles are extraordinary events that confirm this presence, often involving supernatural phenomena such as the transformation of the consecrated Host into visible flesh or the emission of blood. The Church investigates these miracles to determine their authenticity, and while they are not considered part of public revelation, they can serve to strengthen faith and reassure believers of God’s presence.
Saint Carlo Acutis’ online project is one of the most comprehensive resources for Eucharistic miracles, documenting over 150 cases from various countries and time periods. His work highlights key details about each miracle, including location, date, and scientific findings. He started the project when he was 11 years old and wrote at the time,” The more Eucharist we receive, the more we will become like Jesus, so that on this earth we will have a foretaste of Heaven.” He then asked his parents to start taking him to all the places of the Eucharistic miracles, and two and half years later the project was completed.
Saint Carlo Acutis’ devotion to the Eucharist and his work documenting Eucharistic miracles have left an indelible mark on the Catholic Church. His life is a reminder that the Eucharist is not just a symbol but the living presence of Jesus Christ, offered to us out of love. By following Carlo’s example and making the Eucharist the center of our lives, we can grow in holiness, deepen our faith, and become powerful witnesses to the Real Presence of Christ in the world.
PRAYER. O God, through the intercession of Saint Carlo Acutis, may we grow ever closer to Christ, our Eucharistic Lord, and live lives of holiness, love, and faithfulness.
